Economic Calculators and Data Comparison Tools
Choose a tool by the question it answers. Each tool opens a working calculator or comparison workspace in the main page.
What amount has the same measured purchasing power in another month?
Choose an amount and two historical months. The calculator uses the national CPI-U all-items index, with identical adjustment basis at both endpoints.
Dollar equivalent, exact price-index inputs and the formula.
Open inflation calculatorHow does a dollar amount compare across two states?
Choose two states and a shared annual price-parity year. Compare the broad price basket while keeping local prices separate from inflation over time.
Equivalent amount, both regional price parities and a matched-year calculation.
Open state purchasing power calculatorDid wage growth outpace inflation over the same interval?
Enter nominal wage growth and price growth for matching periods. The exact ratio distinguishes purchasing-power change from simple percentage subtraction.
Real wage growth and a transparent worked formula.
Open real wage growth calculatorHow have two to five economic indicators changed over time?
Select histories, dates and a compatible transformation. Different units use separate chart panels; missing periods remain gaps.
Historical charts, aligned tables, displayed CSV and a saved research-view URL.
Open economic indicator comparisonHistorical data tools on indicator pages
Every indicator page includes a chart, date-range controls, an accessible table, transformations, citation copying and CSV downloads. CPI includes adjusted and unadjusted variants. A displayed export preserves the selected period and calculation rather than silently replacing a chart’s growth values with raw index levels.
State rankings with historical period controls
The seven state ranking pages supply full 50-state tables, historical-period selectors and displayed CSV exports. Filtering keeps each state’s national rank. Equal rounded values share competition rank; District of Columbia is shown separately. The rank is always tied to a named economic measure.
What these tools assume
National calculators use the approved national dataset or explicit user inputs; the geographic calculator uses the acquired regional dataset. Ratios require positive usable denominators. Wage and price growth must cover the same interval. State price comparisons use the same year for both places. Missing source values remain unavailable.
Calculations are retrospective or illustrative. They do not forecast future prices, wages or returns, supply personalized household budgets or recommend securities. Read the formulas and check source coverage before citing a result.
