CSV schema and unit conventions
CSV fields: snapshot, geo_fips, state, metric, producer, producer_code, reference_period, value, units, adjustment, status, source_url, source_checksum and acquired_at. FIPS codes are text, retaining leading zeroes. Periods use YYYY or YYYY-MM. Missing values are empty, never zero. CSV and JSON also include population denominators, industry classifications and acquired-file provenance.
GDP is millions of current dollars; real GDP is millions of chained 2017 dollars. Personal income is millions of dollars; per-capita income is dollars per resident. Payrolls are thousands of workplace jobs. Unemployment is percent of the resident civilian labor force. Regional prices are an annual index with U.S. = 100. Units travel with observations.
Ranking transformations and matching periods
GDP growth uses the annual real GDP ratio against the preceding year. Payroll growth compares the same month one year earlier. GDP per capita divides same-year nominal GDP, converted from millions to dollars, by BEA population. Other default rankings use published levels. Competition ranks use each page’s stated precision. The 50 states are ranked; DC is separate. Missing observations are excluded.
No quarterly interpolation, universal resampling, median aggregation or chained-dollar component addition is used. The price-parity calculator compares places in one shared year; it does not quietly deflate 2025 income with 2024 prices.
Industry and geographic boundaries
Profiles show the five largest acquired non-overlapping broad industries in 2025 nominal GDP. Parent categories and their children are not added together. Original 2017 NAICS producer classifications and table lines remain in JSON. Unavailable or suppressed cells are omitted, not reconstructed. This dataset does not contain occupational pay, county GDP or metro derivatives.
Source-file provenance and checksums
Inputs were acquired September 30, 2026. Successful retrieval does not guarantee the newest producer vintage: the annual GDP/income files identify September 30. The hashes below identify original inputs; the public checksum file identifies distributed CSV/JSON and ranking outputs. This acquisition preserves the retrieved revised history, not a pre-acquisition information set.

Industry classification
Industry output uses the 2017 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), as documented in the acquired SAGDP2 footnotes. The JSON retains each code, classification version and table line. Only non-overlapping broad sectors are used in the profile summaries.
Reuse and updates
Selected government statistics are used under the BEA public-domain policy and BLS reuse policy, with their stated exceptions. Preserve attribution, definitions and version IDs. No agency seals, proprietary data or suppressed-cell reconstruction are included.
Future acquisitions require distinct IDs, source-specific validation, release review, fresh ranking exports and atomic rebuilding. API delivery and embeds are not offered. Check freshness, methods and revision coverage before repeating an analysis.
