National indicators dataset

Schema, source coverage, update process and reuse notes for the frozen national catalog.

Contents and units

The dataset contains 41 national concepts in six hubs. Combined and per-concept raw CSVs include default and available adjustment variants, with the exact producer code on every row. JSON additionally retains BEA’s published GDP growth companion. Raw levels are not silently replaced with chart growth rates.

Reference periods are text: YYYY-MM for monthly data, YYYY-Qn for quarterly data, and YYYY-MM-DD for daily observations or weekly week-ending dates. Frequency remains a separate field. Blank CSV values correspond to null in JSON; missing observations are not zero. Units, seasonal adjustment, geography and price basis are preserved.

Schema and lineage

Series ID is this publication’s stable identity. Producer code is the agency’s exact series or table code. Transformation says whether a row is raw or a website calculation. Snapshot identifies an acquired version. Status retains available source qualifiers; not every estimate has an individually specified preliminary flag.

Source publication date identifies the known publication associated with the acquired data, not an inferred original publication time for every historical observation. Acquired-at is a UTC site timestamp. Source URL identifies the input endpoint, and source checksum links the normalized value to an immutable acquired file. The README defines every column.

Coverage and updates

Long histories follow actual producer coverage. CPI starts in 1947, unemployment in 1948, GDP in 1947, production in 1919 and retail in 1992. This site curates claims from 2000 and H.15 from 2017. Series inception and source availability can shorten individual histories. The reviewed national BEA vintage is September 30, 2026.

Updates are operator-reviewed candidates. Source data is fetched outside visitor requests, normalized, checked and compared with the previous approved snapshot. A new approved version is published atomically after build and validation. Previously approved files remain frozen. No unattended production updater is claimed active.

Reuse and exclusions

Selected producer statistics are available under the agency policies linked in the source register, with attribution and any specific conditions retained. The site’s original explanation and design are separate from those statistics. The catalog excludes proprietary consensus, forecasts, suppressed reconstructions and unvalidated regional derivatives.

Use the source code, period, unit, adjustment, source publication metadata and site snapshot in a citation. An export of the current acquired history is not an authentic historical as-of dataset. API and embedding rights must be checked separately before adding those delivery channels.
